Tubby Smith had a day to forget in Minneapolis. After watching his team blow a 12-point lead, Smith called timeout with four seconds remaining just as Lawrence Westbrook cashed what would have been a game-tying 3-pointer.
Minnesota couldn’t get a clean look following the timeout, giving the Wolverines a huge road win. Michigan (19-12, 9-9) had lacked a signature road win, but got 24 points from DeShawn Sims and a career-high 19 from Laval Lucas-Perry to fuel the comeback.
Minnesota (21-9, 9-9) has really faded down the stretch and needs to win at least two games in the Big Ten tournament to get back on the bubble. As things currently stand, Michigan and even Northwestern have much stronger resumes than the Gophers.
