The thing that Stephan Curry does very well is get space for his release.
When I first started hearing the lore of Curry, I figured that some coaches would figure out a way to stop him. He’s a scrawny 6′2″ guard who is basically a one man show for Davidson. But, if you guard Curry with one defender, you can’t shut him down. His shot is too quick and accurate that he can do quick cross-over moves like the ones in the video to carve out just enough space for him to get a shot off.
Now, because we like to focus on the NBA on this blog, I don’t know if he’ll be a good NBA player. But right now that doesn’t matter. He’s arguably one of the top-5 college players in the country, and really fun to watch.
With that being said, his standing on the college basketball scene is greatly helped by who is father is/was and the ESPN hype machine. But, getting back to the NBA, I think Curry could be a great player in Mike D’Antoni’s system. Or another free-wheeling system that allows him to take a lot of players off the dribble to get his own shots.
